USA Today: “Public health nightmare”: Trump and his allies to be booked at Georgia jail known for extreme conditions

Former President Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants accused of trying to steal the 2020 presidential election were booked at the Fulton County Jail. Although the former president was not
expected to spend a long time at the jail, many were curious about the conditions he may face especially as the Department of Justice is currently investigating the jail’s living conditions, medical
care and use of excessive force.

Chris Timmons, a partner at Knowles Gallant Timmons and a former Atlanta-area prosecutor, shared with USA Today readers what the typical booking process at Fulton County Jail looks like. He said, “If the defendant is being taken into custody, they would be put in a holding cell. But defendants can have legal agreements that get them out of custody without having to post bail.”

He told USA Today, “In this particular case, I don’t expect anyone going into custody.” However, Timmons did not the logistical considerations for booking a former U.S. president are immense. He said, “I would assume if the former president of the United States [is] coming to the jail that they’re going to be efficient – ready to go.”
