As the 2024 election nears, many are wondering whether former President Donald Trump could be convicted of multiple charges having already won the election. According to Newsweek, “Should a jury find Trump guilty in Georgia after winning the election, but prior to entering office in January 2025, there is every chance Trump will use the courts and legal arguments to try to delay his sentencing until he becomes president under the assumption that he will no longer have to serve time.”
While the Fulton County district attorney’s Office has already sought a March 2024 trial date, there are numerous factors that could delay such an ambitious timeline. To explain, Newsweek quoted an interview in The New York Times with Knowles Gallant Timmons Partner Chris Timmons. Timmons, a former Atlanta-area prosecutor said, “It takes a while to get everybody arraigned. It takes a while to make sure everybody’s got an attorney. There’s discovery that’s got to be engaged in. There’s a lot of information to process and be ready to go.”
