John Gross is a seasoned business litigator with more than three decades of experience representing corporations, boards, executives, investors, financial institutions, and business owners in their most complex and high-stakes disputes. John is recognized for his ability to navigate sophisticated business litigation, including financial, securities, fiduciary duty, professional liability, and shareholder matters. He also regularly guides companies and their leadership through sensitive internal investigations and compliance challenges.
John has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in matters ranging from hundreds of thousands to several billions of dollars. His clients have included Fortune 100 companies, community and national banks, small businesses, and individuals. His track record spans fraud claims, contract disputes, business dissolutions, and antitrust class actions. John has appeared before federal and state trial and appellate courts, federal agencies, administrative bodies, and in arbitration and mediation. Clients value John’s ability to see several moves ahead, craft practical strategies, and deliver results in any forum.
John brings a unique business-minded perspective to litigation and risk management. He is adept at leading large, multidisciplinary teams in matters involving corporate investigations, compliance, and professional ethics. His background includes serving as internal general counsel to three law firms and as outside counsel to multiple clients, managing litigation, supervising risk and compliance programs, and counseling managers and professionals on legal and ethical duties.
John’s approach to litigation is strategic, solutions-oriented, and tenacious. Equally comfortable in federal, state, and appellate courts as well as in alternative dispute resolution, he is known for combining courtroom tenacity with sound judgment and pragmatic problem-solving. Beyond his litigation practice, John is a sought-after speaker on litigation, corporate governance and legal ethics.
A native of Bloomington, Indiana, John graduated with Highest Distinction from Indiana University and earned his J.D. from Yale Law School. He began his career with a global New York law firm known for its commercial law practice and impact on international affairs, later joining a renowned Atlanta-based firm where he served as a partner for many years.
Based in Atlanta, John enjoys spending time with his three grown daughters and their families, as well as caring for his two noisy parrots and honing his mountain biking skills.
